Meet Dr. Gary Pyland – Director of Music & Worship With over three decades of unwavering commitment to church music ministry, Dr. Gary Pyland brings to First United Methodist Church of The Colony a lifetime of leadership, excellence, and heartfelt service in sacred music. His 32 years as a Church Music Director reflect not only a profound love for worship and music but also a deep calling to guide congregations into meaningful spiritual encounters through song. Dr. Pyland’s journey spans across the country and around the world—from directing choirs in local Methodist congregations in New Mexico and Texas, to designing and leading international music programs in Africa. A seasoned educator and conductor, he holds a Doctor of Musical Arts in Music Education and Choral Conducting from Boston University, as well as multiple degrees in Sacred and Music Education. His dynamic career includes roles as a choir director, university professor, worship leader, and mentor to countless students and musicians. Whether orchestrating vibrant choral anthems, leading handbell ensembles, or introducing new generations to the transformative power of sacred music, Dr. Pyland brings a joyful spirit, a global perspective, and an unshakable belief in music’s ability to unify, inspire, and heal.
