Our Theology of Financial Stewardship | Money is Spiritual

Money Matters. In fact, money is one of the most talked about topics in all of scripture. 11 of Jesus' 39 parables were on money, much of his teaching had to do with money, and throughout the Old Testament, money and money related problems crop up continually? We believe scripture touches on the subject as much as it does, because there is arguably nothing else in our life that competes for our attention as much as money. From the clothes on our back to the shoes on our feet to the cars we drive. Everything we do in life touches money. And precisely because it is so prevalent, money is at risk of also being one of the greatest idols in our lives.


At FUMCTC, we believe how you make and manage your money is a spiritual matter. It's certainly not the most important spiritual matter, but it is one. Our relationship to money is an indicator of our spiritual trust in God, who alone is our true provider. So we strive to talk realistically about the grip money might have on us. And we strive to steward our church's money and resources in a responsible manner that brings about the greatest kingdom impact. We believe that through the practice of (i.e. growth toward) Gracious Generosity we can learn to loosen our grip on what we possess, order our priorities around what matters, participate in God's work, and become more like the abundantly generous God we worship.

So... What about 10%

The Bible calls a tenth a tithe, but Scripture’s witness on giving is more expansive than a single percentage. Abraham offers a tenth to Melchizedek (Gen. 14:18–20), and Israel later practices tithing as part of its covenant life. Yet Jesus never establishes 10% as the required standard for his followers. When Jesus speaks about tithing, he warns that legalistic giving can still miss the “weightier matters” of justice, mercy, and faithfulness (Matt. 23:23). Paul likewise emphasizes giving that is intentional, proportional, and freely chosen: “as you have made up your mind,” not reluctantly or under compulsion (2 Cor. 9:7 (see also 1 Cor.16:2)). So we treat 10% not as a magic number or a requirement for earning God’s favor, but as a historic and useful target. The spiritual question isn't simply, “Have I reached 10%?” but, “Am I becoming more intentional, trusting, and generous with what God has entrusted to me?”For some, the next faithful step may be1% or 3%; for another, 10% of net or gross income; and for others, generosity may grow well beyond 10%. The goal isn't compliance with a percentage ornumber. The aim i s continual, ongoing growth in generosity.

Ways to Give

Online Giving - Tithely

Give securely through Tithely. Through Tithely, you make one time, recurring or irregular donations to the general operating fund or other funds as well. Create a personal account to update your information as needed.

By Check or Cash

We take up an Offering every Sunday during worship. Ushers pass offering plates and our internal controls ensure your donations are protected and kept confidential. If writing a check, please always indicate the fund in the memo line.

Permanent Endowment Fund

You can donate a variety of gifts to FUMCTC's Permanent Endowment Fund. To learn more about our Endowment, contact the Church Office to be put in touch with our Endowment Chairperson.

Planned Gifts

You can leave a financial legacy for FUMCTC through a variety of gifts. Contact our Finance Coordinator in the Church Office. 

Giving in Memory or Honor Of

You can give a gift in acknowledgement of loved one who has passed or on a special occasions in your life.

There are variety of ways to give to the church. All members and actively engaged participations in ministry are encouraged to support the congregation through your prayers, presence, gifts, service, and witness.
